NAS Data Recovery

Process of doing NAS data recovery

When the requirement for Network Attached Storage or NAS data recovery arises?

Storage of personal and business data can only be possible with the use of cheap solutions that are offered by NAS. The NAS has been found to be helping out in providing adequate space for the disk along with providing an access to the network that is fast and offer other different returns. At times there crops up situations when NAS devices fails to work thus leading to data diffidence and loss of data. It is during such situations that NAS data recovery is required. Times when NAS recovery is required includes:

  • A loss of the NAS link;
  • Disks go out of order;
  • Damage of the mechanical or the electrical device;
  • Failure of booting system or a crash of the firmware;
  • When the controller goes out of order or fails to work;
  • A corruption of the data occurs because of failure of power;
  • When there is an offline array.

How the NAS Data recovery is done?

  • Data recovery can be done from the NAS storage by following some simple steps.
  • NAS data recovery can be possible with a grant for a low level right of using the disks. In order to do so the disks should be attached to the Windows PC or to the images of save disk. To get an access to the disks directly one need to ensure that they are logged in with the permission of local administrator of the system.
  • Get the array type embedded in a precise manner. Thereafter the suggestions that are provided in the section ‘Data Recovery: Raid Recovery’ in the user manual should be followed to have a knowledge that which disks should be connected for NAS file recovery.
  • After this only those disks should be opened that are required.
  • Cases in which there is no requirement for a reconstruction of the raid, NAS drive’s data partition can be used.
  • NAS data recovery is required when there are striped raid like Raid0, Raid0+1 or Raid5. So the raid should then be reconstructed based on the partition of data. In doing so the technician would come across such a result comprising of one or numerous other ‘Virtual Raid’ virtual disk and that too partitions that are unknown in nature. The tool named as ‘Find supported file system’ in the user manual of the NAS device can be used for doing this.
  • The completion of these steps would end up in the construction of NAS essentially on the Windows PC of the user. NAS data recovery is all dependent upon the extent of damage of the original data. So checking out the extent of damage caused to the original data, the data can either be copied from the ‘virtual NAS’. Or it can also be retrieved with the use of tool for RAW recovery.
